🌿 Luxury Vegan & Vegan-Friendly Dining in Istanbul: 5 Restaurants to Know

If you are looking for a special dinner, a tasting menu, a Bosphorus neighbourhood experience or an introduction to contemporary Turkish gastronomy while still following a vegan diet, Veganistanbul.com's special list may help you

Istanbul’s vegan scene is often associated with casual restaurants, neighbourhood cafés and traditional dishes that happen to be plant-based. But what if you are looking for something more elaborate? 🍽️✨

For travellers celebrating a birthday or anniversary, planning a special dinner, or simply interested in Istanbul’s contemporary fine-dining scene, there are also restaurants where vegan diners can have a more sophisticated experience.

That is why we put together this list.

There is an important distinction, however: not every restaurant below is vegan. Some are fine-dining restaurants that can accommodate vegan guests through dedicated or adapted menus. At tasting-menu restaurants in particular, dietary requirements may need to be discussed before you arrive.

Here are five places to know. 👇

🌱 Telezzüz | Kuzguncuk, Asian Side

Category: Vegan | Fine Dining

🔗 veganistanbul.com: Telezzüz

Telezzüz is the clearest choice on this list for travelers specifically looking for an entirely plant-based fine-dining experience.

📍 Where is it? Kuzguncuk is a historic neighborhood on Istanbul’s Asian side, on the Bosphorus just north of Üsküdar. If you are staying on the European side, getting there also gives you an opportunity to cross the Bosphorus by ferry before continuing to Kuzguncuk.

Telezzüz focuses on plant-based cuisine rather than simply adding vegan alternatives to a conventional menu, making it different from the other restaurants on this list.

🌿 Good to know: Although the food is plant-based, guests with gluten, nut or other food allergies and intolerances should still communicate their requirements when making a reservation.

🍃 Araka | Yeniköy, European Side

Category: Fine Dining | Vegan options by arrangement

🔗 veganistanbul.com: Araka

Araka is not a vegan restaurant. It is a fine-dining restaurant where vegetables and seasonal ingredients play an important role and where dietary requirements should be discussed in advance.

📍 Where is it? Araka is in Yeniköy, a Bosphorus neighborhood on the European side, north of central areas such as Beşiktaş and Ortaköy and closer to Sarıyer.

This matters for visitors because Yeniköy is not within the main Sultanahmet–Taksim tourist corridor. Allow enough time for the journey, particularly during Istanbul’s busy evening traffic. 🚕⏰

🌿 Before booking: Tell the restaurant explicitly if you require a fully vegan or vegetarian menu, rather than assuming individual vegetable dishes are vegan.

🌾 Neolokal | Salt Galata, Beyoğlu

Category: Fine Dining | Vegan dietary accommodation

🔗 veganistanbul.com: Neolokal

Neolokal approaches contemporary dining through the culinary traditions and ingredients of Anatolia. It is not an exclusively vegan restaurant, so vegan dining should be arranged with the restaurant beforehand.

📍 Where is it? Neolokal is inside Salt Galata, close to the historic Galata area on the European side. It is relatively convenient for visitors exploring Karaköy, Galata and Beyoğlu.

The restaurant operates around a tasting-menu experience, which makes advance communication particularly important.

🌿 Before booking: Do not simply write “no meat” if you are vegan. Make it clear that you do not consume meat, fish, dairy, eggs or other animal-derived ingredients and ask what can be provided across the complete tasting menu.

🌆 Mikla | Pera, Beyoğlu

Category: Vegan-Friendly | Fine Dining

🔗 veganistanbul.com: Mikla

Mikla is one of Istanbul’s established contemporary fine-dining restaurants and is already included in the veganistanbul.com database as a vegan-friendly option.

It is not a vegan restaurant, so advance planning remains important.

📍 Where is it? Mikla is in Pera/Beyoğlu, on the European side, within the wider central area around İstiklal Avenue, Şişhane and Galata. It is therefore one of the easier restaurants on this list to combine with sightseeing in central Istanbul.

🌿 Before booking: If you want a vegan dining experience, communicate this when reserving rather than waiting until you arrive. Ask whether the current menu can be served fully vegan from beginning to end.

🌿 Nicole | Tomtom, Beyoğlu

Category: Fine Dining | Vegan dietary accommodation

🔗 veganistanbul.com: Nicole

Nicole is another tasting-menu restaurant rather than a dedicated vegan venue. Vegan guests should therefore treat dietary arrangements as part of the reservation process.

📍 Where is it? Nicole is in Tomtom, between the Galata and İstiklal Avenue areas of Beyoğlu on Istanbul’s European side. It is centrally located for visitors staying around Taksim, Pera, Galata or Karaköy.

Its tasting-menu format means substitutions may involve several courses rather than a single main dish. This is precisely why advance notice matters.

🌿 Before booking: Ask what the restaurant can prepare for a vegan guest across the entire menu, and communicate any allergies or intolerances separately.

⚠️ Fine dining in Istanbul: book first, explain your dietary needs

These restaurants are not places where we would recommend simply walking in and expecting a vegan tasting menu.

📅 Reserve reasonably well in advance. Availability can be limited, particularly for dinner, weekends and busy travel periods. Some restaurants work predominantly with tasting menus and may require advance reservations.

🌱 Say whether you are vegan or vegetarian when booking. Do not assume that “vegetarian” will automatically be understood as vegan.

🥛 Mention lactose or dairy issues separately. Being vegan and having a milk allergy or lactose intolerance are not the same thing. If this is a medical requirement, say so clearly.

🌾 Mention gluten requirements separately too. “Gluten-free” can mean different things depending on whether you are avoiding gluten by choice, have an intolerance, or have celiac disease. If cross-contamination is a concern, tell the restaurant explicitly and ask what precautions are possible.

🥜 Declare other allergies as well. Nuts, sesame and other ingredients can be common in plant-forward cooking. Vegan does not automatically mean allergen-free.

☎️ Confirm what is possible before you go. Menus, ingredients and the restaurant’s ability to accommodate dietary requirements can change. For a tasting menu, ask whether your requirements can be accommodated throughout the complete menu, not just in one or two courses.

💚 Why we made this list

Eating vegan in Istanbul does not have to mean choosing only casual restaurants.

Travellers may want a special dinner, a tasting menu, a Bosphorus neighbourhood experience or an introduction to contemporary Turkish gastronomy while still following a vegan diet.

At the same time, we do not want to describe a restaurant as “vegan” simply because it can remove an ingredient from one dish. Telezzüz is the dedicated plant-based restaurant in this selection; the others should be approached as fine-dining restaurants where vegan requirements need to be communicated and confirmed.

That distinction matters. 🌱

And one final Istanbul rule: always check the restaurant’s current menu, opening days, reservation policy and ability to accommodate your dietary requirements before going. Menus and policies can change.
